The importance of sodium

Sodium plays an important and indispensable role in the body. Sodium is present in 2/3 of the extracellular fluids, helping to maintain water balance between cells interior and exterior.  Salt taste stimulates the production of saliva and gastric juices, essential for normal digestion. It also helps the absorption and transport of nutrients throughout the digestive system. But, like everything else in life, it should be consumed moderately. “2 g per day is the minimum vital intake”.

Soothe sore throat pain

To alleviate the discomfort of a mild sore throat pain, gargle several times a day with a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon Vatel® salt and 1/2 cup warm water.

Gargling with tepid saltwater is recommended by the American Academy of Otolaryngology to alleviate mild sore throat pain. See a physician if your sore throat persists longer than five days or if the sore throat is accompanied by difficulty in breathing or swallowing, joint pain, earache, a rash or fever.
